Snowpiercer (2013)- Movie Review - A Thrilling and emotional Train Ride

About the Movie: Snowpiercer is a Sci-Fi, Action Thriller movie directed by Bong Joon Ho. Written by Jacques Lob. Snowpiercer stars Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Kang-ho Song and more in the lead roles.

Snowpiercer is a movie based on 'Le Transperceneige' (1982), a post-apocalyptic French graphic novel created by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette.

My Review: Snowpiercer is a Sci-Fi thriller set in the future where a failed climate-change experiment has killed all life except for the lucky few who boarded the snowpiercer, a train that travels the globe, a new class system emerges.

Snowpiercer is one of the most thrilling Social commentary movie i have seen. The movie deals with the class systems, which already exist in our society, and elevated to its extreme where the lower class is kept in the back of the train without any supplies and even without basic human needs, while the top class has luxurious compartments for their entertainment and living. The movie revolves around Curtis, Played by Chris Evans, who act as a leader for the low class to over-through the rich and come to the front.

The movie has some interesting characters, the visuals are amazing, although it was pretty mediocre at times. Snowpiercer is one of those movies that will keep you at the edge of your seats because you will have no idea what to except next. As the protagonists fight their way to the front, we starts to see totally different environments and people in each compartments. Some are filled with psychos waiting to murder you, the next is a class room with little kids learning about the Snowpiercer and its divine maker.

The story, while we are very familiar with, the movie has a very unique way of showing the class discrimination in the society, which i really enjoyed. There are a lot of good characters and a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the movie.

All the actors did an amazing performance, especially, Chris Evans. He was the main attraction of the movie, he was very brutal and did an amazing job through all the action and emotional scenes alike. Another great performance was by Tilda Swinton, She was a totally different person with her appearance and did an amazing performance.

Snowpiercer really became on of my favorite thriller movie, with its brutal action, amazing visuals and very uncomfortable and chilling journey of the characters in the movie. The lighting of the movie is another thing that grasped my attention. Some scenes were lit very cleverly and it was very creative and set the mood for the movie.

There were a lot of subtle symbolism and creative narration hidden throughout the movie, which i really enjoyed and also had some good dialogues in the movie, which will stuck with you for a while.

Positives: The unique way of telling an already familiar story was really good. The performance, Cinematography, Lighting was some of the things that stood out to me.

Negatives: There are many things that really doesn't make much sense if you think from our reality. There are many things left unexplained.

Over all, Snowpiercer is a must watch if you like Sci-Fi Thrillers. If you liked movies like The Platform or Parasite, you will really enjoy The Snowpiercer.

My Rating: 4/5
