Hi guys,
This is my second blog and am going to talk about the solo ride i did to Thirunelveli, Tamilnadu. This is one of the ride i did spontaneously without a lot of planning or preparation. It all began because of my tamil friend in my college. During the lunch break in our college, me, this tamil friend and some others would go to the nearest restaurent for having Biriyani. But whenever we eat, this tamil friend would say that keralite biriyani is nothing compared to tamilnadu biriyani. He would say that tamilnadu biriyani is so much better and tasty than ours. And i would say that one day i will go to his house to test this so called tasty biriyani.
One day i was just in my room  at night and i was in one of my thought processes. it was during that time i just wanted to go somewhere. I get this thoughts sometimes to go for a ride without any plan or set destination. so that night i called my friend and said that i am coming to visit him tomorrow and that he is to take me to the best hotel for a biriyani, and he agreed.
so the next mornign i started my ride at around 6 am. His home was around 175km away from mine. There is two ways to get to thirunelveli, one is to go through highway, in this route, there is highway, cities, which means lot of traffic and humidity. The second route was to go through Thenmala. In this route, there are forests, mountains, open fields, etc so obviously i choose the second one.
The ride was pretty normal until i crossed the kerala tamilnadu border. I don't know if it was because i am used to riding in kerala and i am familiar with how people in kerala drive, but i find it extremely difficult to drive in tamilnadu roads. not because of the roads but because of the drivers in there.
The drivers in tamilnadu will not look for any vehicles before entering a road. they will just speed up to a road without looking either side. As the trip was pretty long and the roads were empty most of the time in tamilnadu, i would just maintain a good speed. I would be cruising around 90-95 km and then suddenly some bus or tractor will jump right in front of me.I literally had to come to a full stop while i was going at 90 km 3 or 4 times because there drivers kept changing lines and cutting me off.
But i managed to reach his home by around 10am. The climate in there was extremely hot. It was like standing in front of the hot air produced by a generator. My friend said that it was just the beginning and it will get worst in the coming months. And that they are used to such heats there. There were literally people roaming around in this head without wearing any shirts.
First we went to his home and his mom and dad were home. They were so friendly. His dad asked me about the ride and i said it was ok. Meanwhile his mother prepared breakfast and tea for us. After having breakfast we went to his room upstairs and just sat in his room talking. Then after sometime, he said that there is a technical museum nearby and we should visit there to kill some time. So we went to the museum, which was only around 4km away from his home.
The museum was pretty old and the things in there were all rusted and barely working. so we just sat there in the park for some time and as i couldn't bare the heat, we decided to leave and have what i came there for..... biriyani.
We went to the nearest hotel and ordered 2 chicken biriyani. The hotel was pretty neat, fully air conditioned. But there were not too many people inside the hotel when er got there. Finally the waiter brought our biriyani and i tasted the so called tasty biriyani for the first time. But i was not impressed. It was not totally bad but it was definitely not better than what i had in my city. I didn't say anything at the time, neither did him. After finishing the meal, we paid and left the hotel.  As we were going back to his home, he asked me how it was and i didn't lie. Surprisingly he also agreed with me. he said that normally the biriyani was very good and it didn't like tomorrows biriyani either. I didn't know what to say because i rode 175 km for this and it was not that good. well there was nothing i could have done about it either. so i blamed my luck and he stopped near an ice-cream shop  and said that he wanted to make it up to me for the bad luck. we had some ice-cream from there and he paid for it.
We went back to his home and i slept for 1 hour and then i left his home. He came with me in his bike to the junction and brought me some tirunelveli halwa as a compliment to me. Even though the biriyani was not that good, the halw was so good. At around 3pm, i started my ride back and i drove all the way back home without stopping anywhere. i reached back home at 8:15pm and took a bath and went straight to bed as i was so tired.
