Marianne (Netflix Series)- My Review

About the Series:(Plot)  Marianne is a story revolving around a famous horror writer who is lured back to her hometown, discovers that the evil spirit who plagues her dreams is now wreaking havoc in the real world.

Marianne is a French Horror series by Netflix about a horror novel writer who is lured back to her home town and has to fight the evil witch from her dreams to save her friends and family. Marianne is Directed by Samuel Bodin, Written by Bodin and Quoc Dang Tran and starring Victoire Du Bois, Lucie Boujenah, Tiphaine Daviot, Ralph Amoussou, Bellamine Abdelmalek and Alban Lenoir in the lead roles.

My Review: Marianne is a gripping Horror Thriller which has an interesting story-line, terrifying visuals, haunting music and an amazing performance. I short, it has all you need from a horror series. Marianne has some interesting and new ways of shooting the horror scenes and combined that with the amazing background music, Marianne did a pretty good job in terrifying the viewers. Even-though there are a some  cheap jump-scares, there are a lot of creative ways by which Marianne scared he viewers by their camera work and quick edits. the show is shot very beautifully, every shot in the series is very pleasing and screenshot worthy weather its the aesthetic if the small town or the terrifying acts of the evil presence. The cinematography in Marianne is just amazing. Another thing that add major value to the show is the background score. the main theme music of the show is very pleasing and terrifying at the same time. The show also has an amazing cast. Especially the main character played by Victoire Du Bois and the old lady played by Mireille Herbstmeyer. All the other actors also did an amazing performance. Every actors were very natural and really convinced the fear to the viewer.

Marianne also has some solid humor moments int he show which i really liked. Its not that common to have a horror show based on a witch to have good humor. The show has some good characters and some lovely moments that the characters share. Some of the comedic or romantic dialogue exchanges between characters is really well done, it was very humorous and enjoyable. There are many likable and entertaining characters in the series.

Positives: Cinematography is amazing in the show. It is just very pleasing to see the beauty of the shots itself. The background music is a big plus. Every single actors did and amazing job. The location of the show is so beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing. The costume of the witch is just amazing and terrifying to look at. The actress played the witch did a good job too.

Negatives: there were some cheap loud sound jump-scares which didn't work for me.

Overall Marianne is a pretty good show. I am sure it will terrify many of the audience. Personally, I am not that easily scared, the only show/ movie that actually affected my sleep is The Haunting of the Hill House.(which i highly recommend). If you liked The Haunting of the Hill House, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Unfortunately, even though the show had a good ending, the show is stopped on a cliff hanger. And there has been recent news that the show will not have a second season, which is a bit disappointing. But still, Season 1 had a good ending. I will definitely recommend to check it out.
