Jagame Thandhiram Movie Review: A solid carefree gangster movie
Jagame Thandhiram is an Indian Tamil-language movie released on June 2021 directly to Netflix. Jagame Thandhiram is directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The movie stars Dhanush, James Cosmo, Aiswarya Lekshmi, Joju George and more in the lead roles.
About the movie: When a clever, carefree gangster is recruited to help an overseas crime lord take down a rival, he is caught off guard by the moral dilemmas that follow.
Jagame Thandhiram: My Review:
The movie follows a small tile gangster in Tamil Nadu who grabs the attention and is recruited by a member of a dangerous gang in London.
Dhanush plays the role of the gangster with ease during the emotional as well as serious and mass moments. James Cosmo did an excellent job in playing the London gangster and white supremist. Aiswarya Lekshmi and Joju George also shows a solid performance for the movie.
Jagame Thandhiram starts off well as a fast paced gangster movie for the majority of the beginning of the movie. But it starts to loose it's tone after the first half of the movie. It dwells a little too long in the flashbacks and narration for my liking. The gangster parts in the movie is very well crafted and I thoroughly enjoyed it. But the movie lost my interest with the emotional and romantic portions of the movie.
The romantic portion of the movie is the biggest turn down for me. It started with no sense and felt very forced, then it became somewhat interesting, but then it went back to being unnecessary and boring. The flashback scenes also felt a little stretched out in my opinion.
Regardless of the lag and dragging feeling in the middle part of the movie, I had a good time watching the movie. It a good gangster movie from Dhanush with some amazing shots, music and performances from the actors. I feel if the movie had stayed on the gangster part a little bit more, it could have bee n a much better experience.
Positives: Cinematography, Performance by Dhanush and James Cosmo, Music are some the main positives of the movie.
Negatives: I felt the movie looses its grip towards the end of the movie. I felt a little lag in the flashback and towards the end of the movie.
Overall, Jagame Thadhiram is an enjoyable gangster movie from Dhanush and Karthik Subbaraj. The movie had the potential to be more but I still enjoyed the movie. You will not be disappointed if you watch it with not very high expectations. Jagame Thandhiram is now available on Netflix.
My Rating: 3/5
