Mandela Movie Review: A Light-hearted but important movie
Mandela is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language political satire movie written and directed by Madonne Ashwin. Mandela is the directors debut film. Mandela stars Yogi Babu, Sheela Rajkumar, Sangili Murugan, G.M Sundar and more in the lead roles.
Mandela movie revolves around a local barber played by Yogi Babu as his fate turns overnight when he becomes the single deciding vote in the village elections.
Mandela Review: Mandela is one of the best political satire Tamil movie I have seen in a while. The movie is filled with humorous moments throughout but it says a relevant and sensitive topics we are facing in the political system even today. It touches on the corruptions and mal-practices of politicians and voters in our country. Mandela says about voter fraud, buying out votes, voting based on cast alone, politicians hiding their original wealth and more. But the movie does these in a very clever and humorous and thought provoking ways.
The artists did an amazing jo of playing giving the characters life and portraying a believable and realistic performance. Every characters, that even came for one or two scenes will leave an impact on you. Yogi Babu excels in portraying a vulnerable and naive character throughout.
Yogi Babu goes through a lot of different emotions because of the rollercoaster ride that his life has become. And we as audience will feel with the character because of the well written script and the performance of the actors.
The cinematography, screenplay and music also helps the movie to make it more engaging and keeps the audience interested through out the movie.
Positives: Performance by the actors, Screenplay, Cinematography and music is the major strenghts of the movie.
Negatives: I felt that the run-time of the movie to be a bit long. It could have been shorten a little bit.
Overall, Mandela is a must watch for all audiences. It is humorous, thought-provoking and relevant movie that came out in the recent times.
Mandela is available to watch on Netflix.
My Rating: 3.5/5
